Families of North Korean Defectors threatened with Labor Camp
Since the North Korean authorities began issuing a new form of ID card to the people in May, an investigation into the locations of missing persons has been under way.
A Daily NK source from North Hamkyung Province explained on Tuesday, “For the purpose of issuing new ID cards, the authorities have conducted a survey of residents. As far as I know, families of missing persons in the survey have had the accounts of their missing family members investigated by the National Security Agency and People’s Safety Ministry.”
He added, “Investigators are threatening the families, saying that they may be sentenced to six months imprisonment in a labor-training camp if they make a false statement or fail to fully engage in the investigation.”
